Shift Charge Engineer

Eligibility: UAE Nationals

Job Description:

The Shift Charge Engineer is responsible for directing Power plant operators in the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the power plant which includes HRSGs, gas and steam turbines, generators, associated auxiliary equipment and substations in accordance with SAOM Policies, the PPA or as directed by the Production Manager.

 Shift Charge Engineer is responsible for coordinating and communicating with other Maintenance Engineers, departments and shared facilities personnel to analyze and resolve problems.

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline.
  • Ten years of power plant experience in a Thermal power Plant, three years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Combined Cycle Power Plant experience, >500 MW capacity power plant experience and previous experience as SCE in medium to large Power Plant are Preferable.
  • Excellent English verbal and written skills.
  • Strong leadership skills are essential.
  • Ability to take direction and responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze a problem and pursue to successful conclusion
  • Team player.

Job Requirements

The duties and responsibilities of Shift Charge Engineer include but are not limited to the following:

  • Leads the shift group in safe and efficient operation of the S3 Power Plant equipment.
  • Directs power generation plant operators on the operation of all plant equipment in a safe, reliable and efficient manner in accordance with the PPA following industry standards, environmental compliance, original equipment manufacturers recommendations and SAOM and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Directs all operators to ensure the operation of all equipment in a manner which will achieve the optimum Plant availability, reliability and efficiency without compromising personnel and equipment safety.
  • Liaising with TRANSCo for the plant Generation declarations, dispatch and outages.
  • Liaising with GASCo and ADNOC for the fuel gas and fuel oil receipts and outages.
  • Prepares and reviews the equipment SOPs and LOTO procedures.
  • Ensures Operation Department Standard Operating Procedures are followed in Plant operations
  • Ensures all the plant emergency and protection equipment is available. Reports the deviations to the Production Manager and the Maintenance personnel for immediate rectification.
  • Ensures equipment isolation and normalization are carried out per the requirement following proper Safety PTW and LOTO procedures.
  • Leads the shift team to meet Shift group, Production department and SAOM annual targets.
  • Responsible to oversee all start-up, shutdown and emergency operations as per                the stipulated procedures.
  • Analyze plant operating problems and coordinates solutions with his shift group, other operating Shifts and Maintenance Departments without compromising safety, and with least impact on plant availability and reliability.
  • As an incident controller, takes appropriate measures to control the onsite and offsite emergencies.
  • Acts as Site Controller in the absence of Plant General Manager and Production Manager until they arrive at site. Declares the emergencies according the potential of the emergency. Hands over the duties Plant General Manager or Production Manager upon their arrival and updates of the status.
  • Maintains the shift logs, equipment operation data, parameter trends and equipment history records.
  • Reports immediately to the Operations Manager whenever :
  • An accident occurs involving serious injury to personnel.
  • A plant upset occurs which would result in an extended loss of plant equipment availability.
  • It is necessary to take disciplinary action.
  • Ensures operators and chemists adhere to housekeeping policies.
  • Ensures daily, weekly and monthly reports and logs are maintained.
  • Evaluates the performance of subordinates.
  • Trains operators and chemists as needed.

Control Room Engineer

Eligibility: UAE Nationals

Job Description:

The Power Generation Control Room Engineer is responsible for directing the overall safe, reliable and efficient operation of Gas and Steam turbines HRSGs, generators, associated auxiliary equipment and Electrical switchgear, in accordance with SAOM policies or as directed by the Shift Engineer.

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering
  • Five years’ experience in power plant operation.
  • Combined Cycle Power Plant experience, >500 MW capacity power plant experience and previous experience as CRE in medium to large Power Plant are preferable.
  • Ability to take direction and responsibility and direct the work of others.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze a problem and pursue it to a successful conclusion.
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Team player.
  • Availability to work rotating shifts.

Job Requirements

The duties and responsibilities of the Control Room Engineer include but are not limited to the following:

  • Carries out the Plant operations safely and efficiently in a professional manner, in accordance with prudent industry standards, environmental compliance, original equipment manufacturers’ recommendations and SAOM Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Instructs and coordinates the plant operations with the Lead / Senior Field Operators, Field operators and shift chemist, to operate the generating plant and auxiliary equipment.
  • Direct with the Lead / Senior Field Operators, Field operators and shift chemist to ensure the operation of all equipment in a manner which will achieve the optimum Plant availability, reliability and efficiency without compromising personnel and equipment safety.
  • Operate DCS controls and other systems that are required to control all applicable plant systems during normal plant operations, startup, shut down and emergency operations.
  • Assist the Shift Engineer in the preparation of Permits to Work as required.
  • Assist in the startup and commissioning of the power generating plant equipment.
  • Analyze plant operating problems and take necessary steps to restore plant to normal operation or take recommended solutions to the Shift Charge Engineer as appropriate.
  • Report immediately to Shift Charge Engineer whenever
  • An accident occurs involving serious injury to personnel.
  • A plant upset occurs which would result in a loss of plant or equipment availability.
  • Writes routine daily entries in the control room log.
  • Assists Shift Charge Engineer to prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports as required.
  • Provides on the job training for Lead / Senior Field Operators and Field operators.
  • Coordinates and cooperates with maintenance and engineering personnel for the overall benefit.

Lead Chemist

Eligibility: UAE Nationals

Job Description:

Responsible for overall safe, reliable and efficient management of the S3 power plant, water chemistry and environmental compliance and related issues in accordance with prudent industry standards,  original  equipment manufacturers’ recommendations, SAOM’s Standard Operating Procedures or as directed by the Production Manager. He/she is responsible for monitoring compliance to environmental standards, regulations and guidelines for all plant systems and emissions. Responsible to provide technical advice regarding the environment inspect of all the plant systems and devices. Directs the work of Chemists.

Minimum Qualification

  • Degree in Chemistry / Environment or Chemical Engineering.

  • Ten years of power generating plant experience must.

  • Ability to take direction, responsibility and lead others.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze a problem and pursue it to a successful conclusion.

  • Strong leadership with good inter-personal and communication skills.

  • Capable of handling multiple tasks and assignments.

  • Knowledge of all applicable compliance standards as required in the UAE.

  • A team player

Job Requirements

The duties and responsibilities of the Lead Chemist include but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitors the operation of the S3 water treatment plant and demineralizers to assure consistent makeup water quality, makes frequent visual inspections, and checks for abnormal conditions.

  • Monitors the chemical limits of the makeup water, the frequency of routine demineralizer regeneration and takes action to ensure that maximum permissible limits are not exceeded.

  • Ensures that appropriate quality and quantities of chemicals are fed to the different water consistently to assure proper water quality.

  • Communicates with the Maintenance Department by means of a Work Request to ensure that equipment malfunctions affecting water quality, such as a condenser tube, receive prompt maintenance.

  • Monitors all cooling water chemistry to assure consistent water quality, and takes action to ensure that maximum permissible limits are not exceeded. Makes frequent visual inspections, and checks for abnormal conditions.

  • Conducts water sampling and tests.

  • Monitors fuel oil and gas chemistry to ensure that it is within the design specification. Promptly advises the Shift Charge Engineer / Production Manager of any deviation from fuel specifications which could adversely affect the operation of HRSG.

  • Provide technical assistance in interpreting laboratory test results, and advise on impact of test results to the plant operation.

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
